Access Statement for Penstowe Park Holiday Village

Introduction

We have endeavored to improve the accessibility of the site and facilities to meet the full range of our visitor's needs so that everyone can truly enjoy their stay with us at Penstowe Park Holiday Village.

However, this access scheme is a continually evolving project, in which all Penstowe staff enthusiastically contributes, providing both assistance and further suggestions to improve the services that we offer.

Pre-Arrival

• We offer telephone, fax, email and postal correspondence.
• The accessibility of our web site is very important to us, if you encounter any problems with our web site please inform us so that it can be rectified. Please note we have no control over the accessibility of third-party services.
• We are able to provide company names and telephone numbers to arrange wheelchair hire.
• A copy of this access statement is available in large print and via post, fax or email upon request.
• Our staff are always happy to discuss our facilities and your concerns even before a booking is made, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Reception

• The entrance to Reception is through a set of sliding doors that lead to a foyer area that is level throughout and entirely accessible to wheelchairs.
• A large number of accessible parking bays are located in close proximity to Reception.
• The Reception Manager is 'Welcome All' trained, and further assistance from all staff is always available upon request.
• Reception opening hours are 8.30am - 7pm throughout the season.

Public Areas

• The site is on a slope.
• Public areas are well illuminated at night.
• Guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs are accepted in all areas.
• The majority of roads throughout the site are surfaced with tarmac. All the car parks and those to the front and rear of the Penstowe Manor are surfaced with loose small chippings to encourage slow speeds.

Penstowe Manor

• The lounge bar and restaurant are located on the ground floor.
• Entrance to the lounge bar area has wide double doors with level access.
• The floor plan of both areas is open with wide level access doorways throughout, and wheelchairs are permitted throughout the complex.
• All tables and chairs are moveable, and for those customers with disabilities, reservations can be made upon request and waitress service is always available.
• Key catering staff are trained to discuss any food allergy concerns.
• The Cabaret Suite is accessed within the building with two steps into this facility. There is alternative access provided to the side entrance of the suite with a movable ramp provided to give wheelchair access. Please arrange with Reception staff to use this entrance.
• Toilet facilities are provided off the Cabaret Suite.
• Disabled parking is available nearby in the public areas upon request.

Swimming Pool and other sports facilities

• Wheelchair access into the sports facilities area is readily available. Please notify Reception staff to have the disabled entrance opened for you.
• There is level access to the changing area, showers, WC etc. There are steps within the shallow area of the swimming pool. The sports hall has steps leading down into it. The table tennis tables are located on the balcony of the sports hall and there is one step into this area.
• Further assistance is always available upon request, and staff are trained to discuss any pool safety concerns.

Grounds and Gardens

• The park extends over a large area and is located on a hillside.
• The park is serviced by private roads linking all areas of the site.
• Street lighting illuminates most of the roads, and there are some speed bumps on site.
• We have restricted the traffic speed throughout the site to 5mph to ensure the safety of our guests and staff.

Additional Information

• A public telephone is provided, and there is generally good mobile phone coverage throughout the site.
• A 24 hour emergency phone number is provided upon arrival should you ever need to contact a member of staff in an emergency. This phone number can also receive text messages.
• Full lists of local care, medical and service providers and hire companies contact details are available in Reception.
• Phone numbers for taxi firms with wheelchair accessible vehicles are available in Reception.
• There is a regular bus service from Kilkhampton to Bude. Information about this service is available at Reception.
• The nearest main railway station is located at Exeter with a regularly bus service from Exeter to Bude.

Future Work

• We have an ongoing schedule of works to be carried out on the park including the building of new holiday homes, improvements to existing units, upgrading of footpaths and signage throughout the park.
• Guest feedback and suggestions are always warmly received.
